ARTWORK REQUIREMENTS

Artwork should be supplied in any one of the following digital file formats:

  • PDF – a press-optimised PDF file (Acrobat-generated) with all fonts and high-res images embedded.
Failure to embed high-res images will result in bitmapped or pixelated output.
Full-page and double-page ads should have crop marks and bleed.
  • Open files (Quark Xpress 6.5 or earlier, Adobe CS3 or earlier: InDesign, Illustrator or Photoshop)
    – all fonts and linked images must be supplied
    – all text in vector graphics (Illustrator-generated) must be converted to 'paths'
    – scanned images should be at 300 DPI at the final print size, and supplied in TIFF or EPS format in CMYK mode.

Please ensure all colour documents (including embedded graphics) are generated for four-colour reproduction (CMYK), unless previously agreed with your account handler. Files supplied with spot colours (eg Pantone) will be converted to CMYK unless specifically requested, in which case a charge of £400 per spot colour will be charged.

Please provide hard-copy proofs of all ads supplied. If colour accuracy is critical, it is essential that a Cromalin or Matchprint is supplied. Otherwise a black-and-white laser or fax will be accepted for content check.

Please note that, although Cross Border Ltd endeavours to ensure ads are correctly printed, it will not be held responsible for any errors that may occur as a result of supplying unprintworthy files, wrong artwork or lack of hard-copy proof.

Banner ads:
600 x 74 pixels .gif or .jpg format only
In association sponsorship: max height 95 pixels .eps format only

Files should be kept less than 25k and be accompanied by a valid link.

In association sponsorship

Please submit up to 15 words of text with your logo for in association sponsorship.
The following additonal text will appear before your text:
In association with [your company name].
This will also form the alt text for your logo.

Banner ads: animation

Animated .gif files (.gif89a) do not rotate on the Outlook 7 email client, so we recommend that you submit a .jpg or .gif file without rotation.

If you wish to submit an animated .gif file, we strongly recommend that you put all your salient information on the first slide, as this is the only frame that will be visible to Outlook 7 clients.

Banner ads: alt text

Please also submit alt text for your banner ad.

Alt text is the text that appears either when you hover over an image or when the email recipient has images turned off in their email client.

Alt text should:

  • contain essentially what the banner image contains as it’s an alternative in case the image is not displayed
  • preferably contain a call to action, such as “Read more about ...” or “Visit the website for more information” to encourage readers to click on the ad
  • be no more than 180 characters long including spaces
  • not include website URLs or links to email addresses

The alt text will automatically link to the same URL the banner ad links to.
